Organised by the Science Education Promotion Association of Macau and title-sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”), the “2026 Macau Astronomy Study Tour & GEG Astronomy Cup – The 2nd Macau (International) Youth Astronomy Competition” successfully concluded with its awards ceremony.

This year’s competition saw an increased participation with attracting over 2,000 students from Macau and overseas. Among them were 550 students from Macau, as well as nearly 70 award-winning  students from mainland China who travelled to Macau specifically to join an astronomy-themed study tour.

Jessica Cheng, President of the Science Education Promotion Association of Macau, noted that, since the competition launched in March, it has successfully hosted a series of events, including a lunar eclipse observation, school sharing sessions, astronomy workshops, and study tours for participating students. She emphasized that the competition serves not only as a platform for intellectual competition but also as a vital initiative to deepen the integration of “Tourism + Education.” She also expressed gratitude to GEG for its title sponsorship for the second consecutive year, as well as to all co-organizers and supporting institutions for their invaluable assistance.

From April 10 to 12, nearly 70 award-winning students from mainland China visited Macau for an astronomy-themed study tour. During their visit, they experienced Portuguese folk dance culture and participated in a dome-screen astronomy knowledge challenge at the Macau Science Center’s Planetarium.

Award-winning students representing Macau will travel to mainland China in May to participate in the Ministry of Education’s whitelist competition, the “Chinese National Astronomy Olympiad,” where they will compete with top students from across the country.

As the title sponsor of the competition, GEG continues to promote science education among young people. Through diverse initiatives, the company supports the cultivation of a new generation of science and technology talent, actively builds innovative learning platforms, and broadens the horizons of local youth, thereby deepening their understanding of the nation’s cutting-edge technological developments.
