Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai stated on Thursday (April 30), during the Macau Federation of Workers’ Association’s reception commemorating Labor Day, that the Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) will collaborate with all sectors of society to create better working conditions, promote harmonious labor relations, and support workers in realizing their life goals.

Sam Hou Fai emphasized that employment is the foundation of the population’s well-being. In this regard, the Macau SAR Government has been strengthening the protection of labor rights by intensifying interdepartmental cooperation through the “Working Group for the Coordination of Employment Promotion,” with a view to improving the employment guarantee system for residents.

At the same time, a revision of the “Labor Relations Law” is underway, including an increase in maternity leave and annual leave days.

The head of the Executive also highlighted the importance of valuing professional skills, noting the expansion of the “Employment + Training” plan and the creation of an integrated vocational training platform. These measures aim to increase workers’ competitiveness and train qualified human resources, in line with the needs of economic development and the diversification of the local economy.

The Chief Executive emphasized that the 15th National Five-Year Plan sets out new strategic guidelines for Macau’s development, adding that public consultation on the Macau SAR’s Third Five-Year Plan will begin shortly.

The Government intends to gather input from all sectors of society, including workers, and is counting on the active role of the Federation of Macao Workers’ Association in mobilizing ideas and proposals.

Finally, Sam Hou Fai expressed his gratitude to the Federation for its continued support of the Government, highlighting its contribution to social stability and the defense of workers’ interests. He also expressed his hope that the organization will continue to serve as a bridge between the Government and society, contributing to the sustainable and high-quality development of the Macau SAR.
