A fire broke out early Wednesday morning (24th) at a ground-floor shop in a building on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, prompting the closure of road traffic in the area and the deployment of dozens of emergency personnel, reported Macao Daily News.

The alarm was raised around 5:00 a.m., according to the newspaper. Upon arrival, firefighters detected smoke coming from the commercial establishment and immediately began firefighting operations.

During the intervention, signs of an electrical leak were detected using measuring equipment, a situation that prevented teams from immediately entering the premises, according to information released by the Fire Services and cited by Macao Daily News. In response, firefighters set up an external firefighting operation using water jets and ladder support to contain the flames.

After coordination with the power company to cut electricity supply, firefighters were able to force entry into the shop and proceed with direct firefighting inside, Macao Daily News further reports.

At the time of publication, the site was still undergoing cooling and search operations, and the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

The Public Security Police Force deployed 35 officers to the scene and closed nearby roads. No injuries were reported and no evacuations were required, according to Macao Daily News. The incident also affected 17 bus routes, with additional police deployed in the area to help ease traffic disruptions.

Macao Daily News adds that the affected building is part of Macau’s historical heritage, and Cultural Affairs Bureau staff were sent to the scene to assess any potential impact caused by the fire.
