The City University of Macau (CityU Macau) and the University of Beira Interior (UBI) have marked “the beginning of academic cooperation” with an agreement for academic mobility and the potential for research focused on Portuguese-speaking countries.
The memorandum of understanding outlines the “development of initiatives of mutual interest,” such as the exchange of faculty, researchers, and students, the implementation of teaching, research, and extension projects, as well as the promotion of lectures and the exchange of academic publications, according to a UBI press release issued on Thursday.
Among the possibilities discussed, the note highlights the creation of temporary mobility opportunities for UBI students in the Chinese territory. The Vice-Rector of CityU Macau pointed out the availability of financial support “in areas such as tuition, accommodation, and travel.”
“We hope these measures can attract students from your university to our campus,” indicated Ip Kuai Peng.

The agreement, signed this week in Covilhã by the Vice-Rector—who led a delegation of around 20 members—and the Rector of UBI, Ana Paula Duarte, marks “the beginning of academic, scientific, and institutional cooperation” between the two institutions, the note states.
Other avenues for cooperation across various scientific fields represented by the CityU Macau delegation were debated during the meeting. Participants included representatives from the Research Institute for Portuguese-Speaking Countries, the Macao Center for Research on Social and Economic Development, and the Faculty of Health and Wellness.
UBI will also welcome a delegation of 20 secondary school students from Macau in July, who will participate in an integration program dedicated to the Portuguese language and culture, the Portuguese higher education institution’s statement further notes.
