The Angolan government officially inaugurated its new national Data Center and Cloud infrastructure today in Camama, Luanda. Attended by the President, the event marks a pivotal shift toward enhancing the nation’s digital sovereignty and securing state assets.
Minister of Telecommunications Mário Oliveira emphasized that digital sovereignty is critical for economic competitiveness. By keeping sensitive state and citizen data within national jurisdiction, the country aims to boost administrative transparency and security.
This facility complements a series of major investments in Angola’s digital ecosystem. These include the AngoSat-2 satellite launch, a 22,000 km fiber optic network, and integration with international submarine cables such as 2Africa, WACS, and SACS.

With approximately 17.5 million broadband subscribers and a 75% mobile penetration rate, the infrastructure addresses the urgent need for local storage. It will enable secure hosting for over 80 public services and significantly bolster national cybersecurity capabilities.
The $89 million investment features 208 physical racks and a capacity for 13,000 virtual servers. The center is also designed to foster local technological innovation, including the future development of AI-based solutions tailored to the Angolan context.
Beyond government systems, the center will modernize the media sector by supporting digital television and audiovisual content management. The government is also investing in human capital, training local technicians internationally to operate these systems.
