Macao featured as “International Favourite Destination” of MATTA Fair 2025
Macao took center stage at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2025, held from 18 to 20 April in Kuala Lumpur.
At this leading consumer travel event, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) was honoured with the “Best National Tourism Organisation (NTO) Booth” award and celebrated as this year’s “International Favourite Destination.”
These accolades reflect MGTO’s strategic focus on deepening engagement with the Southeast Asian market, particularly Malaysia, one of Macao’s top ten visitor source markets.
For the first time since the pandemic, MGTO re-established its physical presence at the fair, showcasing the city under the theme “Experience Macao.”
The booth offered a vibrant display of Macao’s diverse attractions, from its east-meets-west cultural legacy and integrated resorts to gastronomy, seasonal events, and rich intangible heritage.
Visitors could participate in interactive workshops inspired by Macao’s famous fireworks displays and lion dance traditions.
A collaboration with the Macau Leisure Tourism Services Innovation Association and Air Macau enriched the visitor experience with travel tips, games, prizes, and souvenirs.
Around ten Malaysian travel agencies also presented exclusive Macao travel packages, further strengthening commercial ties between the two destinations.
As MATTA Fair’s featured international destination, Macao was heavily promoted across venue advertising, official materials, and on-stage programming. The event welcomed over 340 exhibitors and more than 1,750 booths.
Preceding the fair, MGTO participated in MATTA Connect, a B2B networking event on 17 April that brought together over 300 tourism stakeholders from Malaysia and 30 other destinations.
A detailed presentation introduced recent initiatives such as the Macao for Muslim Travelers – Halal Travel Guide, aimed at enhancing Macao’s appeal to Muslim tourists.
MGTO’s 2025 campaign in Malaysia has kicked off strongly. The office plans to continue outreach through international travel fairs, a major roadshow in Kuala Lumpur, and strategic partnerships with airlines, travel agents, and influencers.
Promotional activities will also include hosting a Malaysian delegation at the 13th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo from 25 to 27 April.
These efforts aim to reinforce Macao’s position as a premier short-haul destination for Southeast Asian tourists.
