The People’s Government of Zhuhai Municipality, alongside the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone and the Macau SAR Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), hosted the “China (Zhuhai, Hengqin, Macao) – Brazil (São Paulo) Economic and Trade Exchange Seminar.”
This event, the first of its kind in a Portuguese-speaking country, attracted over 180 delegates from Chinese and Brazilian government and business sectors.
Key attendees included Chen Yong, Secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee, and Yu Peng, Consul General of China in São Paulo. They emphasized the importance of enhancing economic ties between the two countries.
During the seminar, IPIM Director Sam Lei showcased Macao’s strong trade partnerships with over 120 countries and highlighted the “China-PSC Business Compass,” a service aiding more than 160 enterprises, including many Brazilian firms, in sectors like agricultural imports and new energy equipment.
A 16-member delegation from mainland China and Macao, organized by IPIM, undertook a five-day visit to São Paulo, Cuiaba, and Manaus, leading to over 100 business matching sessions and the signing of four cooperation agreements. This initiative aims to increase the accessibility of Chinese products in Brazil while promoting Brazilian commodities in China.
Looking ahead, IPIM is preparing for the Second China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Expo (C-PLPEX) in October in Macao. A recent roadshow introduced nearly 100 participants to the expo’s features, with interest from Brazilian companies to leverage Macao’s platform for expanding into the Mainland Chinese market.
Delegates reported positive outcomes from the visit, citing effective cooperation through the “China-PSC Business Compass.” João Saraiva, Director of the Manaus Free Trade Zone Bureau, expressed confidence in Macao’s role as a gateway for Chinese investments in Brazil, reinforcing the potential for continued economic collaboration between the two nations.
