This year’s event showcases a range of contemporary documentary works, bringing audiences a vibrant exchange between Portuguese and Macau cinema.
The opening session takes place on September 24 at 6:30pm at the Dr. Stanley Ho Auditorium in the Consulate-General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong. The spotlight will be on local short films:
- “Those Who Paved the Way” by Bryan Garcia
- “The Lost Eden of Birds” by Sou Teng Chan
- “Light on Light off” by Weng Ian Lei
- “Flowers for My Mother” by Vitória Santos
- “I Am Here” by Elsie Zhang Xiwen and Mike Xu Haonan
These films have received accolades at the Macau International Short Film Festival. Several directors will be in attendance for an interactive Q&A session following the screening.
On September 28, the festival concludes with screenings of “By Division and Differentiation” by Carolina Grilo Santos and “Memories of a Perfect Day” by Davina-Maria El Khoury, followed by the feature film “As Melusinas à Margem do Rio” by Melanie Pereira. This film won multiple awards at DocLisboa, including:
- Best Film in the Portuguese Competition (HBO Max)
- Best First Portuguese Film (Fernando Lopes – Midas Filmes and DocLisboa)
- Best Film in the Portuguese Competition (ETIC Schools)
Director Melanie Pereira will be present for a discussion after the screening. Her visit to Macau also includes masterclasses with local university students and meetings with Portuguese-Chinese school students.
This event is organized by IPOR with support from the Consulate-General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong, the Cultural Development Fund, APORDOC, and Creative Macau. The sessions, offering free entry, begin at 6:30pm, except on September 28, when the program starts at 5:00pm.
