Iran announces attacks on U.S. bases in Bahrain and Jordan and warns of further escalation

Iran has announced a series of attacks against United States military installations in Bahrain and Jordan, in an action Tehran describes as a direct response to recent American strikes in the region and the growing tensions in the Middle East.

According to statements issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian Army, cited by the Fars news agency, the targets include the U.S. Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and an American airbase in Jordanian territory. Iranian authorities say the operation involved missile and drone strikes, hitting multiple military objectives, including radar systems and air-defense infrastructure.

Tehran justified the action as retaliation for U.S. attacks on Iranian territory, carried out following the downing of an American military helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also warned that it could respond with a “more severe” reaction if Washington continues what it describes as acts of aggression.

On the U.S. side, the Central Command (CENTCOM) previously confirmed military operations against Iranian positions, carried out under direct orders from President Donald Trump, targeting air-defense systems and radar installations near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington says the strikes are a proportional response to attacks on U.S. forces and maritime interests in the region.

Kuwait’s military also reported that its air-defense systems intercepted “hostile targets,” without providing further details, raising concerns about a possible spillover of the conflict across Gulf states.

The escalation follows several days of indirect and direct confrontations between the United States and Iran, in an already highly volatile regional context, fueling fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
