Trump says Iran “took too long to negotiate” and warns: “the Middle East bully is DEAD”

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran “took too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them” and warned that Tehran “will now pay the price”, amid a sharp escalation in military tensions between the two countries.

The remarks were posted on the Truth Social platform, where Trump intensified his rhetoric against the Iranian government, also stating that the “Middle East bully is DEAD”.

“Iran took too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them. Now they will pay the price,” the US president wrote.

The statements come at a time of heightened military tension in the region, marked by successive exchanges of attacks between US and Iranian forces.

According to military sources cited by international agencies, the escalation began after the downing of a US AH-64 Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, an incident Washington attributes to Iranian forces.

In response, the United States carried out military operations against targets in Iran, including air defence systems and radar installations, in what US Central Command described as a “proportional” action.
