A total of 55 Responsible Gaming Ambassadors from Sands China attended, and were warmly received by Ryan Wong Hing-yan, Supervisor of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Even Centre, a leading counselling and treatment services organisation for individuals with gambling disorder. The program included an introduction to Even Centre and a site visit, offering valuable insights into Hong Kong’s responsible gaming efforts.
Highlights of the tour included observing the Anti-Gambling Ping Wo Truck, which effectively raises awareness about the harms of gambling disorder through exhibitions, interactive games, and brief consultations. Peer counsellors also shared personal experiences, equipping the ambassadors with essential skills to assist individuals struggling with gambling addiction.
The tour aimed to establish connections with responsible gaming organisations in Hong Kong, fostering resource-sharing between the two cities and enhancing assistance to patrons. In arranging for the tour, Sands China reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible gaming and ensuring the well-being of guests and team members.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed gratitude to the Even Centre for their warm welcome and sharing of knowledge with the ambassadors: “Sands China is committed to promoting responsible gaming and ensuring the well-being of our guests and team members. We were therefore pleased to organise the Responsible Gaming Hong Kong Training Tour for our Responsible Gaming Ambassadors, equipping them with invaluable knowledge and insights into best practices.”
The Responsible Gaming Hong Kong Training Tour facilitated knowledge exchange among participants, enabling discussions on the causes and effects of gambling disorder. Participants also gained insights into financial and debt management strategies employed by Even Centre to assist those affected by the disorder.
Sands China has been a pioneer in responsible gaming initiatives in Macao since 2004, implementing a self-exclusion program and incorporating responsible gaming training into its team member orientation program.
The tour is an initiative of the Sands Responsible Gaming Academy, a sub-academy under the Sands China Academy, which offers comprehensive talent development programs for team members and local industry professionals. The academy not only offers diversified training programmes, but also collaborates with local and international tertiary educational institutions to foster professional development across various industries in Macao.
