Supporting Vulnerable Families for Over a Decade

Since 2013, the Welfare Shop has diligently distributed essential food items on a monthly basis to several thousand families facing financial difficulties. This ongoing initiative offers relief from the escalating cost of living, particularly for households in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

Providing Nourishment and Joy

Each food hamper thoughtfully contains staple items such as rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, shower gel, and more. This year, Sands China went the extra mile by including a special Chinese New Year gift pack, purchased from the Fuhong Society of Macau.

To further enhance the festive spirit, a benevolent  “God of Fortune” was present to distribute sweets and bestow blessings upon the beneficiary families on-site.

Expressing Gratitude and Commitment

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering dedication of Sands Cares Ambassadors and their vital role in supporting critical community initiatives like the Welfare Shop.

A Remarkable Partnership

During the event, Dr. Wong presented the ceremonial cheque for MOP 300,000 to António José de Freitas, President of Macau Holy House of Mercy’s General Assembly.

Esteemed guests, including Gisela Nunes, Secretary General of Holy House of Mercy, and representatives from various community welfare organizations, were present to witness the enduring collaboration between Sands China and the Macau Holy House of Mercy.

15 Years of Dedication

This year’s food hamper distribution holds special significance as it aligns with the 15th anniversary of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme.

Launched in 2009, the programme has grown to encompass over 3,300 passionate volunteers from all Sands China properties, collectively contributing more than 310,000 hours of voluntary works. Through community activities and volunteer services, Sands China Ambassadors embody the values of love and care, actively fostering social development and contributing to the establishment of a harmonious and inclusive society.

A Commitment to Social Causes

Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like its steadfast support for the Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop as central to its commitment to social causes and community involvement.

These initiatives are part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
