Revitalising Macao’s Cultural Heritage: Sands China’s Spring Festival in Full Bloom

Sands China invites Macao residents and visitors to celebrate Chinese New Year with a series of exciting attractions as part of its Community Revitalisation Series – Spring Festival in Full Bloom. The event takes place throughout February at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses Museum, offering a revitalized experience for all to enjoy.

Embracing the Year of the Dragon

In celebration of the Year of the Dragon, Sands China has curated a series of activities under the theme “Spring Festival in Full Bloom.” These include free attractions such as an interactive A.I. photobooth, family workshops, Chinese New Year-themed and romantic installations, live music and more. The aim is to provide a new, fun-to-explore landmark for residents and tourists to explore during the Spring Festival.

Official Opening Ceremony

Leong Wai Man, president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, spoke at the opening ceremony and expressed enthusiasm for the event series. She emphasized the significance of revitalizing Macao’s historical districts and cultural heritage, highlighting their ability to bring a captivating cultural journey to the public and add a unique charm to the city. Leong Wai Man extended warm congratulations to Sands China for the successful planning and launch of the event.

Supporting Macao’s Revitalisation Efforts

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm for the Community Revitalisation Series – Spring Festival in Full Bloom. He emphasized the significance of this event in preserving and promoting Macao’s cultural heritage.

Dr. Wong stated, “For the first time, we are launching simultaneous revitalisation projects at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses Museum, creating opportunities for parents and children to experience traditional Chinese culture in a fun way, while attracting couples to visit, thereby connecting these two outdoor spaces and generating a synergistic effect with the old Taipa Village area.”

He further highlighted that the company will continue to support the Macao SAR government in its revitalisation projects.

Don’t miss this vibrant celebration of culture and heritage:

  • Spring Festival-themed holographic AI photobooth: Step into the world of Spring Festival with an exclusive holographic AI photobooth, capturing festive memories with special effects.
  • GONG Hei Fat Choi interactive installation: Strike the four gongs for good fortune and share New Year wishes on the Wall of Wishes to share with the city.
  • Spring Festival Family Workshops: Engage in fun parent-child workshops featuring fai chun ink rubbing, Chinese weaving, paper craft, and lantern making – letting everyone experience the charm of Chinese traditions and culture.
  • Live music: Enjoy soul-stirring musical performances, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Showtimes are Feb. 24-25, at 4-4:30 p.m. and 5-5:30 p.m. each day.

  • Light up the heart: Ignite your heart in an interactive game at the Taipa Houses Museum, celebrating love and teamwork.
  • Larger-than-life bouquet of roses: Capture stunning photos amidst a breathtaking display of fibreglass roses.
  • Live music: Immerse yourself in a romantic Portuguese setting with live jazz performances.

Showtimes are Feb. 13-14, at 4-4:30 p.m. and 5-5:30 p.m. each day.

Apart from the Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses Museum, Sands China’s revitalisation efforts include the revitalisation and optimisation plan of the areas around Pátio da Eterna Felicidade, and Rua das Estalagens, in cooperation with the Macao SAR government. It is also the company’s objective to organise a diverse range of activities encompassing culture, arts and sports at Macao Cultural Centre Square, making it a new option for hosting outdoor events in Macao.
