Sands Cares Ambassadors and other community volunteers, local teachers and students, and NGO members enjoy an early viewing of the film “Dear You”, currently a box-office hit in the Chinese mainland, on its official premiere day in Macao Thursday, at Sands China’s Love for Home and Nation – Sands Cares Presents: Screening of “Dear You” event.
Sands China hosted a special screening of the film Dear You on its Macau premiere day June 18, welcoming nearly 200 participants, including Sands Cares Ambassadors, local teachers and students, community volunteers and representatives from local associations.
The film, which has generated more than RMB 1.7 billion at the mainland China box office since its release in April, explores the experiences of overseas Chinese communities through stories of resilience, sacrifice and family devotion.
Set against the historical migration of Chaoshan people to Southeast Asia, Dear You uses “qiaopi”, remittance letters sent home by overseas Chinese, as a narrative thread to portray the hardships faced by emigrants while highlighting their enduring ties to their homeland and families.
The outreach event, “Love for Home and Nation – Sands Cares Presents: Screening of Dear You”, was attended by senior executives from Sands China, students from Tong Sin Tong Middle School, and members of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau, Women’s General Association of Macau and Macao Federation of Trade Unions.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “More than just a deeply moving film, ‘Dear You’ vividly portrays the strong sense of nationalism that lies at the heart of Chinese culture. Through its delicate storytelling, the movie brings to life Chinese traditional virtues such as integrity, credibility, and familial devotion. The film profoundly resonates with Chinese communities around the world, celebrating our spiritual heritage and the deep emotional bonds that unite overseas Chinese with their homeland – values that are incredibly important to preserve for future generations.
“For this special screening, we brought together nearly 200 participants, including members of community organisations, secondary school teachers and students, and our Sands Cares Ambassadors, to appreciate the genuine emotion and enduring ties between overseas Chinese and the motherland – thereby fostering community cohesion, spreading positive energy, and promoting the virtues of community care, family devotion, and mutual inclusivity. Sands China will continue to inject warmth and vitality into the community through diverse cultural initiatives, extending the Sands Cares spirit of dedication to all.”
Launched in 2009, the Sands Cares Ambassador programme was the first volunteer initiative established by an integrated resort operator in Macau.
Today, it includes more than 4,000 volunteers who have collectively contributed over 360,000 hours of community service, reflecting Sands China’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and corporate social responsibility.
