Macau gaming operator Sands China recorded a net profit of 107 million US dollars (93.7 million euros) in the second quarter, a year-on-year drop of 50%, the company announced today.

Between April and June 2025, the casino operator’s net profit had reached 214 million dollars (187.4 million euros), according to a financial report published by the operator.

In Macau, said Patrick Dumont, president and CEO of Las Vegas Sands, the parent company of Sands China, “continued investments in improved services and hospitality contributed to volume growth across all gaming segments compared to the previous year.” However, “an abnormally low ‘hold’ in VIP gaming had a negative impact on the financial results” of the quarter, he added.

The ‘hold’ is the percentage of bets that the casino retains as net revenue after paying out winnings to players.

This quarter’s decline comes after the operator’s net profit in the Chinese territory rose 45.5% to 294 million dollars (257 million euros) in the first three months of the year.

In the period now under review, there was also a 0.8% drop in total net revenues, to 1.78 billion dollars (1.55 billion euros), compared to the same period in 2025 (1.79 billion dollars or 1.56 billion euros).

Regarding the company’s properties in the Chinese semi-autonomous region, The Londoner Macao, The Parisian Macau and Sands Macau recorded increases in net revenues of 10.6%, 12.3% and 33.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Venetian Macau saw revenues fall 10.8% and, in the case of Plaza Macau, the drop was 29.4%.

In the statement, the company also highlighted another factor that affected the results. Between April and June, there was a decrease in VIP customers at the Macau properties and at Marina Bay Sands, in Singapore, during the Football World Cup.

“This trend was very evident in June, given the evolution of business in both markets at the beginning of the quarter,” the note states.
