Vivienne, the youngest daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has filed a petition to legally remove “Pitt” from her last name, making her the fourth of the couple’s six children to take that step.
Jolie, 51, and Pitt share six children together: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and 18-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. On July 21, Vivienne filed to join her older siblings Zahara, Maddox and Shiloh in requesting the name change, with court documents obtained by People magazine listing the reason simply as “personal.”
A source close to Jolie said that if the full story were known, people would likely feel more sympathy for the children rather than less, adding that the family’s decision to stay quiet publicly reflects well on them. The source said Jolie isn’t approaching the situation with anger and has no interest in conflict, describing her focus as simply wanting the family to heal.
Vivienne’s petition seeks to change her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. Zahara is pursuing Zahara Marley Jolie, and Maddox is seeking Maddox Chivan Jolie. Shiloh was the first to take this step, filing in 2024 to become Shiloh Jolie, a request that was formally approved that August.

A source close to Pitt, 62, previously offered a starkly different take on the pattern, telling PEOPLE it was disheartening to watch someone publicly showcase what the source characterized as having successfully driven a wedge between the children and their other parent.
Zahara’s and Maddox’s petitions remain pending, with hearings scheduled for September 28 and September 14 respectively, according to earlier court filings. Both recently published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal confirming their intent to proceed with the changes under California law. Vivienne’s hearing has been set for November 2.
Neither Jolie nor Pitt has commented publicly on their children’s petitions. Pitt last touched on the value of family during a June 2025 red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of his film F1, reflecting that reaching his age had taught him the importance of staying close to the people he loves and who love him back, describing it as a simple foundation from which everything else follows.
