The six-day Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026 tournament concluded on June 21 at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, delivering thrilling matches across five categories: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
Co-organised by Sands China and the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM), the event marked the third consecutive year of their partnership in hosting this globally anticipated badminton championship.
As an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, the tournament featured a total prize fund of US$370,000 (approximately MOP 3 million), the highest among all Super 300 tournaments this year. This record purse underscores the organisers’ commitment to supporting Macao’s development as a “City of Sports” and aligns with the Macao SAR government’s “Tourism+” diversification strategy.
The tournament was sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and supported by the Sports Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macao Government Tourism Office, with equipment sponsorship from Felet International Holdings.

To enable global audiences to enjoy this world-class tournament, six days of live matches were streamed via the tournament’s official website and Youku Sports. The semi-finals and finals were additionally streamed online on the BWF YouTube channel, spreading the event’s atmosphere across the globe.
This year’s tournament attracted 390 applications from 29 countries and regions, with 275 players qualifying to compete in Macao. The line-up featured an impressive roster of international talent, including:
- Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, the Chinese national team’s world No. 2 mixed doubles pair;
- Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia’s bronze medallist in men’s singles at the 2024 Olympics;
- Angus Ng Ka Long from Hong Kong, China, and Teh Jia Heng from Singapore;
- Kim Ga-Eun, world No. 16 in women’s singles from South Korea, who led her team to victory in the Uber Cup;
- Busanan Ongbamrungphan from Thailand.
Macao players Pui Pang Fong, Leong Iok Chong, Pui Chi Chon, Ng Weng Chi, and Pui Chi Wa competed across all five tournament events.

As the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise to co-organise the Macau Open with the BFM, Sands China has leveraged the event to further engage the local community while driving Macao’s economic diversification.

The two elite players interacted with nearly 100 participants, including students from the Ilha Verde Middle School of Macao Chamber of Commerce and Sands Cares Ambassadors, demonstrating badminton skills and sharing their mindset for handling high-pressure matches and fostering team spirit.
The activity was supported by the Education and Youth Development Bureau. The organisers also provided interactive experiences both during the campus activity and outside the tournament venue, offering on-site sports training and physical fitness testing.

These experiences gave participants an opportunity to learn about the innovative combination of artificial intelligence and sports technology.
This year’s tournament also featured a “Badminton Sport & Leisure T-Shirt Pattern Design Competition,” as well as handicraft workshops and a creative market, all open for public participation.
Sands China fully supports the integrated development of sports and tourism in Macao and cooperates with the Macao SAR government’s efforts to develop a “City of Sports” by continually hosting and sponsoring major international sporting events.
The company has been consistently investing resources in holding extended activities during sports competitions, such as training camps and community activities, in a bid to facilitate world elite players to further engage with the Macao community and enhance the positive impact.
