A press conference on Wednesday at The Londoner Macao announces Sands China partnering again with the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM) to present the ‘Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026’ tournament. The event will be held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome June 16-21, with the full support of the Sports Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macao Government Tourism Office.

As an event of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300, the 2026 Macau Open will comprise five events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

The total prize money for this year’s tournament has reached US$370,000 (approximately MOP 3 million), the highest in the Super 300 series this year, underscoring the contest’s growing influence on the international sports stage.

This year’s tournament features a strong line-up, receiving applications from 390 players across 29 countries and regions, with 275 qualifying. The line-up includes Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, the Chinese national team’s world No. 2 mixed doubles pair, and He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu, Chinese national men’s doubles pair who won the Thomas Cup in May. Macao will be represented across all five tournament events by players Pui Pang Fong, Leong Kok Chong, Pui Chi Chon, Ng Weng Chi and Pui Chi Wa.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “Sands China has co-organised the ‘Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton’ tournament with the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM) for three consecutive years. The tournament’s broad support across the community has fully demonstrated the far-reaching impact of international sporting events, while the event itself has contributed to the Macao SAR government’s ‘Tourism + Sports’ direction.

“Sands China has long been committed to supporting Macao’s large-scale sports events. Through concrete actions and concerted efforts across society, we strive to continually strengthen Macao’s drawcard as a ‘City of Sports,’ while integrating the city’s diverse and distinctive appeal to advance Macao’s development into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.”

Kong Tat Choi, President of the Badminton Federation of Macau, said: “We are honoured to once again join hands with Sands China to host a BWF World Tour tournament. By organising this international high-level sporting event, we aim to attract more world-class athletes to Macao and advance its vision of becoming a ‘City of Sports.’ This year, we are focused on elevating the on-site spectator experience and offering enhanced ticket discounts to ensure a wider audience can experience the appeal of badminton.

“Our sincere thanks go to Sands China for their long-term support of local sports development, to the Badminton World Federation for their continued endorsement in sanctioning the event, and to the Sports Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macao Government Tourism Office for their backing. Together, these concerted efforts have made this tournament possible, reinforcing Macao’s vibrant reputation as a ‘City of Sports.’”

Sands China was the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise to co-organise this tournament with the Badminton Federation of Macau. Ever since the commencement of the partnership, both parties have worked closely in building a community exchange platform.

This year’s community activities will feature elite players from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) visiting local Macao schools for the first time to share their experiences and demonstrate hands-on skills, in a bid to spark students’ enthusiasm for badminton.

Furthermore, a dedicated interactive experience zone will be set up outside the tournament venue to showcase to the general public the innovative applications of AI in sports, such as athletic training and performance evaluation. In addition, a “Badminton Sport & Leisure T-Shirt Pattern Design Competition” was held for all Macao residents to participate in.

The ‘Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026’ tournament is sanctioned by BWF, supported by the Sports Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, and sponsored by equipment provider Felet International Holdings.

Macao athletes, judges, and representatives of supporting organizations of the “Badminton Sport & Leisure T-Shirt Pattern Design Competition” gather at Wednesday’s press conference. The competition was launched for all Macao residents to participate in and is an extended activity of the ‘Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026’ event. A total of 30 entries have been shortlisted.

The competition’s semi-finals and finals will be live-streamed online on the BWF YouTube channel, “BWF TV.” Participants from past years’ BFM competitions and students from Macao’s tertiary institutions, secondary, and primary schools are invited to enjoy the tournament on-site, giving audiences worldwide the opportunity to witness the exciting moments of the tournament.
