Eight students were injured, one of them seriously, after a grenade exploded at a school in southern Mozambique, police said.
The incident took place at the Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Secondary School, in the Maluana administrative post, Maputo province.
According to Deoclésio Maiela, head of operations at the district command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Manhiça, the explosion happened when a group of students began arguing over a grenade that was in the possession of another student.

One of the students reportedly grabbed the grenade from others and threw it toward nearby people inside the school grounds.
“One of them took it from the other and threw it where other students were gathered in the schoolyard, and it exploded. Several students who were there were injured,” Maiela said.
The eight victims, including one in critical condition, were taken to the district health center, where they are receiving medical treatment.
