Sands China Ltd. marked International Women’s Day with two initiatives recognising the contributions of female team members at work, at home and in the community.

At a ceremony on March 6, senior management presented ribbon flowers purchased from Macau Special Olympics to female staff as a token of appreciation.

The day’s flagship event, an EmpowHER Sharing Session, was organised by the company’s EmpowHER employee resource group and held at The Venetian Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Center.

The session, themed “Empowering Each Other, Achieving the Extraordinary, Breaking Boundaries,” showcased career insights, personal stories and practical advice to help women unlock potential and network across the business.

Guest speakers included Fong Wai Chon (Macau Special Olympics gold medallist), Selina Ao Ieong (former Macau Special Olympics International Global Messenger) and Devonne Iao (senior vice president and chief marketing officer of resort marketing for Sands China).

Speakers shared personal journeys and practical perspectives: Fong reflected on sporting perseverance and overcoming misconceptions; Selina emphasised the value of trying and advocacy through campus outreach; and Iao discussed how knowledge-sharing and global viewpoints can strengthen women’s workplace participation.

Their accounts encouraged colleagues to support one another and to pursue continuous professional growth.

EmpowHER also hosted a family workplace experience day titled “Love • Understanding • Together • Family,” inviting employees’ children to visit the workplace and create floral gifts, reinforcing family engagement and appreciation.

Grant Chum, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Sands China Ltd., said: “International Women’s Day is a special occasion to celebrate the strength and achievements of women, and we take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to every female employee. Sands China is dedicated to fostering a warm and inclusive workplace, ensuring that all women can thrive and reach their full potential in a safe and respectful environment. We firmly believe that the growth and dedication of our employees are the foundation of the company’s development. Moving forward, we will continue to uphold the spirit of inclusivity and respect, driving continuous progress and growth for our organisation.”

As Macao’s largest private employer with more than 28,000 team members, around half of whom are women, Sands China highlighted its long-standing policies to protect rights and support families.

Measures include a company policy preventing sexual harassment and discrimination (launched July 2018), company-wide training, lactation rooms in back-of-house areas, parent-child activities, expanded paid maternity leave (now 90 days), up to six days of paid Child Care Leave and a Parenthood Support Shift.

These measures form part of Sands China’s broader efforts to promote workplace equity and family-friendly benefits.
