International Film Camp 2025: Assembling Veteran Filmmakers to Empower Emerging Directors

The International Film Camp returned to Macao for its second edition, held recently at The Venetian Macao. The event brought together 18 young filmmakers from eight Asian countries and regions, focusinging on script development under the theme “My Best Friend”.

In the end, eight participants were awarded funding to produce their short films. PLATAFORMA closely followed the five-day camp, speaking with mentors and winners from both editions, who highlighted not only the importance of this experience for the future of Asian cinema, but also the growing role of Macao as a stage for cinematic creation.

Macao once again is a starting point for young filmmakers

The International Film Camp (IFC) was launched in Macao in 2024 with an ambitious aim: to provide young filmmakers with a space where talent meets opportunity. More than a simple workshop, the IFC transforms ideas into films, bringing together all the essential elements, including artistic guidance, exchange of experiences, funding, and access to international circuits. IFC 2024 winners shine on the international circuit

The International Film Camp 2024 proved to be much more simply an opportunity to learn. A year later, the winning projects are not only completed but are also travelling to prestigious film festivals around the world. The young directors highlight the friendships formed as the most valuable prize of the intense week they spent in Macao, while also emphasising the lessons that left the deepest mark on their paths as filmmakers.

This year’s winning scripts

Turning Dreams into Reality at the International Film Camp

The International Film Camp’s return to Macao for its second edition offered a new batch of young participants fivefive days of intense learning, collaboration, and discovery as filmmakers. Among the winners were Jane Zhang, from Macao, and Tynystan Temirzhan, from Kyrgyzstan. Their journeys to the film camp were different, but both left with reshaped scripts, renewed ambitions, and the confidence that they belong to the new generation of Asian cinema.
