Consumption increased by 2.6 percent compared to the same period in 2024, or 2.0 percent when adjusting for temperature effects and working days, surpassing the previous maximum recorded in 2010 by 0.8 percent, according to REN. September alone showed a year-on-year variation of 2.2 percent, or 1.4 percent with corrections.
Renewable energy sources supplied 70 percent of demand in the first nine months, it said.
The consumption increase reflects continued economic activity and industrial production recovery in Portugal, said REN.
Portugal’s electricity sector has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, with substantial investment in solar and wind capacity.
