Underground development ‘inevitable’ for LRT expansion into peninsula districts: Gov’t

The Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system must be developed underground to expand across districts on the peninsula, the government said, as construction and planning move forward for several new segments.

The comments were made by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam Vai Man during a Legislative Assembly session on Monday, where he addressed questions from lawmakers.

Tam said the LRT East Line—currently under construction—will connect the Taipa Ferry Terminal to the Qingmao checkpoint in Ilha Verde and the Border Gate via the newly reclaimed Urban Zones A and E on the peninsula.
