Gov’t wants two more LRT lines around peninsula: secretary

Macau’s Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system is set for an expansion as the government seeks to enhance the existing network in a bid to boost its low ridership and improve urban mobility.

As Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Tam Vai Man, pointed out during a Legislative Assembly question-and-answer session on Wednesday, the authorities are studying the feasibility of two additional LRT lines. The aim is to encircle the periphery of the Macau peninsula with these two additions, forming a complete circuit.

Under the tentative plan, the West Line will extend from the Qingmao Port, passing through the Fai Chi Kei district and Inner Harbour, before reaching the Barra station. The second line will begin in reclaimed Zone A, extending through the Outer Harbour, Nam Van, and Sai Van, before connecting to Barra.
