Sands China volunteers gather outside The Venetian Macao Tuesday before Sands China’s 16th annual Chinese New Year service project for the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme. More than 220 volunteers visited around 150 elderly residents.
Sands China has partnered with Peng On Tung for 16 consecutive years to visit nearly 1,000 elderly service users before Chinese New Year.
This year, volunteers visited around 150 residents, all users of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM). Armed with cleaning supplies, volunteers tidied homes to welcome the Year of the Snake.
Since 2010, Sands China has donated MOP 3.42 million to support Peng On Tung, benefiting over 27,500 elderly users. The funds subsidize services for those in financial need and help develop value-added services.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: “Caring for the elderly is a virtue in Chinese culture. Sands China is proud to host this annual visit to bring festive blessings to Peng On Tung users. For 16 consecutive years, this tradition reflects our commitment to corporate social responsibility and serving the community. We thank UGAMM volunteers and our team for providing cleaning, maintenance, and haircutting services to those in need. We look forward to continuing collaborations with local NGOs, enhancing community harmony, and supporting the government’s vision of a ‘Happy Macao.’”
Leong Heng Kao, President of UGAMM’s supervisory committee, joined the event and expressed gratitude: “Sands China’s generous support has enabled us to launch services and provide subsidies for economically disadvantaged users, spreading warmth in the community. We thank the Sands Cares Ambassadors for their unconditional care, especially during the annual New Year’s visit.”
Volunteers delivered New Year gift packs containing noodles, biscuits, cleaning supplies, and detergent, purchased through Fuhong Society of Macau and prepared by persons with disabilities.
This visit is an annual initiative of the Sands Cares Ambassador programme, which launched in 2009 as Macao’s first volunteer programme by an integrated resort operator.
With over 3,600 members, the programme organizes community activities and volunteer services, promoting love and care for disadvantaged groups, supporting social development, and fostering a harmonious, inclusive community.
Sands Cares Ambassador volunteer service is one of the key initiatives of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme.
