A 3-Month Festive Journey
From December 7, 2024, to February 28, 2025, “Light Up Macao 2024” will illuminate the city with a dazzling display of light and creativity. This vibrant celebration coincides with major festivities, including the Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Valentine’s Day. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to an immersive cultural experience spanning iconic traditions and modern artistry.
The teams in charge of installation design and mapping shows this year embraced both local creative power and international vision. They comprise 18 artists and design teams, some of whom are from eight UNESCO Creative Cities of Design in the Mainland and overseas.
Unified Organization for a Shared Vision
This stunning event is orchestrated by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) with the support of Municipal Affairs Bureau, Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Sports Bureau, Marine and Water Bureau and Macao Science Center. The event partners include Wynn Resorts Macau, SJM Resorts, S.A., MGM, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Galaxy Entertainment Group and Sands China Ltd.
This collaboration exemplifies the city’s commitment to innovation and cultural tourism, creating a world-class festival that highlights Macao’s creative energy by spotlighting “tourism + events”.
Six Zones of Wonder
“Light Up Macao” transforms the city into six themed zones, each reflecting the unique charm of its district. With art installations, interactive exhibits, and live performances, these zones are hubs of creativity and community spirit. Pop-up events and captivating mapping shows enrich the experience, while a detailed map ensures visitors can easily navigate each mesmerizing attraction. There will be 6 flagship installations, 4 art installations, 12 light installations, 9 interactive installations and 3 mapping show venues at 23 locations on Macao Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. The installations will be illuminated and open to the public from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Immersive Activities for All
Engaging activities make “Light Up Macao 2024” even more memorable. By sharing photos with #lightupmacao2024 or #iluminarmacau2024, visitors can win themed gifts, while the event will feature more games this year for playful exploration. Weekly pop-up performances and workshops add a dynamic touch, and the “Luminescent Night at Travessa do Armazém Velho” offers a glowing display of the city’s nighttime allure.
