It was this Tuesday that Xi Jinping, Chinese president, and Vladimir Putin, leader of Russia, met in Kazan, the Russian city where another BRICS summit is taking place, a group of emerging economies of which not only China and Russia are founders, but also Brazil and India.
The BRICS summit comes to an end today and it is expected that more countries will join the group. However, the focus of this meeting was the meeting between Xi Jinping and Putin, described yesterday by the Chinese press as a “positive signal” sent to the world.
At the meeting, Xi Jinping defended China’s “unshakable friendship” with Russia “despite the turbulent international situation”, and described the BRICS bloc of emerging economies as a platform that will contribute to the advent of “a structured multipolar order” and an “economic globalization accessible to all”.
