31st Macau International Fireworks Competition kicks off on Monday

The Macau International Fireworks Display Contest (MIFDC) returns this autumn after a three-year hiatus from this city's grand event with a 30-year history. Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the 31st edition of MIFDC will take place from September 9th to October 7th (covering the golden week and the National Day of the People's Republic of China). The event will feature the participation of pyrotechnic companies from 10 countries and regions, offering residents and visitors memorable performances that will enrich the nightlife and boost the economy of local community areas.

This year’s MIFDC edition includes six integrated tourism and leisure companies as event partners. Details of the MIFDC program and extension activities were already announced by the MGTO in a press conference on August 28th.

During the press conference, MGTO Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, mentioned that, by continuing the goal of cross-sectoral integration of “tourism +,” through joint efforts and cooperation from various parties, MIFDC is once again being held.

The return of this major Macau event not only provides dazzling spectacles for residents and visitors but also signifies the resumption of communication between Macau and the rest of the world and the gradual return of life to normality globally. The MGTO director expressed hope that through the diverse experiences provided by MIFDC, visitors from different parts of the world can feel the charm of “tourism + events” in Macau.

According to the display order in the competition, the companies are from Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, the Philippines, Japan, China, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

To attract more residents and visitors to enjoy the fireworks from different locations, the five best viewing points for the displays are recommended for this edition: from Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Avenue at the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre to the Kun Iam Statue Marginal Leisure Zone, the riverside promenade of the Macau Science Center, Anim’Arte Nam Van, Avenida de Sagres (next to the Mandarin Oriental, Macau Hotel), and Avenida do Oceano, Taipa.

Furthermore, the Chinese channel of Radio Macau (FM100.7) will broadcast the background music accompanying the fireworks displays in real-time, which will take place at 9:00 PM and 9:40 PM each night, to facilitate the enjoyment of the fireworks from different locations. Additionally, TDM Ou Mun and TDM Entertainment channels will broadcast the event live.

Online voting to increase public participation in the event

MGTO will launch an online voting contest to increase the involvement of residents and visitors in MIFDC. The public can enter the contest by following online access information or by scanning QR codes at viewing areas.

Each time participants vote, they immediately enter a draw to win souvenirs and discounts from businesses. If participants vote for the team that wins MIFDC, they are automatically entered into a “final contest,” inviting viewers to pay even closer attention to the performances.

The MGTO is once again cooperating with the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau to organize the popular Fireworks Festival Fair. The fair will take place from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM during the five nights of MIFDC, in the area near the Macau Tower, featuring a combination of gastronomy, shows, and games to enhance the program for each exhibition night.

Additionally, for the first time this year, community associations will organize a fireworks festival fair at Anim’Arte Nam Van and the Taipa Marginal Leisure Zone, allowing residents and visitors to choose different locations to enjoy each fireworks display, savour snacks, play games, and watch entertainment shows.
