Assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis was provisionally suspended on Monday pending an inquiry into an alleged assault on footballer Andy Robertson at half-time between Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Premier League referees’ college (PGMOL) has suspended Hatzidakis, while the body and the FA are investigating the incident that occurred at half-time in Sunday’s game, when the assistant referee elbowed the Liverpool player.
In the images, it is possible to see Andy Robertson, who had seen a yellow card shortly before the half-time whistle, walking towards the assistant and he raised his arm, appearing to have hit the player slightly, with the latter being calmed down by Salah.
“The images speak for themselves,” said Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp at the end.
Liverpool and Arsenal drew 2-2 on Sunday, in a match for the 30th round of the English Football League, with the ‘gunners’ squandering a two-goal advantage, in a game with goals from Martinelli (08), Gabriel Jesus ( 28), Salah (42) and Firmino (87).
Arsenal lead the English league, with 73 points, six more than champions Manchester City, who have one less game, while Liverpool, with a season below expectations, is eighth, with 44 points.
