World Bank will rise to 2% global growth outlook

This is an upward revision based on “better prospects in China after lockdowns are lifted”

The president of the World Bank, David Malpass, announced this Monday that the institution will raise the world growth perspective by three tenths to 2%, after the end of the blockades in China due to the pandemic.

“It is an upward revision, in part, due to the better prospects in China, after the blockades are lifted”, said Malpass, in a press conference, before the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which today start.

China should grow 5.1% this year, eight tenths above the value estimated in January.

The increase in the forecast is also linked to global growth, with consumption at levels higher than expected, for example, in the United States and Europe, he pointed out.

Even so, the president of the World Bank anticipated a “slower” activity in the second half.

Malpass recently announced that he will step down from the World Bank on June 30th.
