“The time has come for us to make joint gas purchases a reality. We have the energy platform up and running and we have to make it operational now because every day of delay in implementing the joint purchasing mechanism carries a price”, stressed Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at a press conference in Brussels.
A day before the relevant European ministers meet at an Energy Council in the Belgian capital, the leader of the community executive called for “an agreement on the emergency regulation proposed on 18 October”.
“We need it now”, stressed Ursula von der Leyen, pointing out that the European Commission is already in “discussions with the partner countries of the Member States and companies” to carry out these joint gas purchases, similar to what it did for common acquisition, in behalf of the EU, of anti-covid-19 vaccines.
