The US President stated today that the United States will not pay 300 billion dollars (260 billion euros) to Iran under the memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday.
“There is no 300 billion dollar payment to Iran from the United States. Fake News! All the United States gets out of this is success, falling oil prices, and a victory. Look at the stock market!” Donald Trump wrote on his social network, Truth Social.
The memorandum of understanding with Tehran, signed by Trump on Wednesday at the Palace of Versailles in France, provides for a 300-billion-dollar investment plan for the reconstruction of Iran, as well as the release of 24 billion dollars (about 20.9 billion euros) in Iranian funds frozen due to sanctions, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.

However, according to US sources, the resources will be funded by Middle Eastern countries, and the only role the US will play is to ease sanctions to facilitate the necessary economic transfers.
If the release of these funds to Iran is confirmed, it partly resembles the nuclear deal struck by the administration of former Democratic US President Barack Obama which, in 2015, included access to around 50 billion dollars (over 43 billion euros) belonging to the Iranian regime that had been frozen in foreign banks due to sanctions.
