WHO advocates open schools. “We must ensure education for our children”

The World Health Organization (WHO) defended this Thursday the need to keep schools open during the covid-19 pandemic and considered that confinement can be avoided if protective measures are increased.

“We must ensure education for our children,” said WHO Director for Europe Hans Kluge, stressing that children and adolescents are not the main drivers of contagion and that closing schools is not efficient.

Hans Kluge also stressed that confinements are “a waste of resources” and that they cause many side effects, such as damage to mental health or increased gender violence.
