Twelve people died today following a plane crash in the US state of Missouri, local authorities reported. The accident occurred in Butler, near the Butler Memorial Airport, approximately 105 kilometers south of Kansas City.
Sergeant Justin Ewing of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated that the aircraft was transporting passengers for a skydiving jump. Emergency teams received a call reporting that a plane had crashed and was engulfed in flames at around 11:30 local time today (17:30 in Lisbon), he said.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed in an official statement that state troopers were on the scene assisting the Butler Police Department and the Bates County Sheriff’s Office. According to Sergeant Ewing, the fatal accident is currently being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine the cause of the crash.
