Legislators demand return of tourist visas for those coming from Guangdong

Yesterday’s debate in the Legislative Assembly (AL) was marked, in the period before the agenda, by the request of several legislators for the return of the issue of individual tourist visas by the Guangdong authorities to Macau.

Angela Leong, legislator and executive director of the Macau Gaming Society (SJM), was one of the speakers. “The authorities are expected to continue to make efforts to negotiate with Mainland China and resume the feasibility of issuing entry visas to Macau for residents of the Greater Bay,” she said.

It should be noted that since 15 July the quarantine exemption between Guangdong and Macau has been in effect and processing of entry visas for residents from Guangdong to Macau has been resumed, with the exception of tourists.

As of August 12, visa processing for residents of other provinces will resume. However, for the legislator, this is not enough to revitalize the local economy, since “they only facilitate the movement of Macao residents to the interior of China, and only a small number of people with a business or student visa can come to Macau ”.
