Boris Johnson considers “shameful” Winston Churchill statue’s threats

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today considered it “absurd and shameful” that the statue of Winston Churchill was covered with wooden boards to avoid being vandalized by “violent protesters”.

In a series of eight messages on the social network Twitter, the prime minister said that the statue of Parliament Square in London, in honor of the British leader during World War II “is a permanent reminder of his achievement in saving this country – and Europe – a fascist and racist tyranny ”.

“It is absurd and shameful that this national monument is today in danger of being attacked by violent protesters. Yes, he sometimes expressed opinions that were and are unacceptable to us today, but he was a hero and deserves the memorial, ”added Johnson, attacking those who seek to“ censor our past ”. For the prime minister, the demonstrations of the Black Lives Mater movement, which have taken place and are expected to continue over the weekend, were “regrettably appropriated by extremists with the aim of causing violence”.
