Aligning with the national “dual carbon” goals and the Macau SAR Government’s environmental vision, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has integrated green and sustainable practices across its entire operations.
This year, several of GEG’s hotel brands and its MICE facilities achieved outstanding results under the globally recognized EarthCheck certification program, reaffirming GEG as the integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau with the highest number of certifications in the region.
Banyan Tree Macau leads the accolades, securing EarthCheck certification for the 10th consecutive year and advancing to Platinum Certification, becoming the first hotel in Macau to achieve this distinction. Galaxy Hotel™ was upgraded to Gold Certification, while Capella at Galaxy Macau, Raffles at Galaxy Macau, Andaz Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, and the Galaxy International Convention Center were all awarded EarthCheck Silver Certification.
Earlier, GEG hosted an EarthCheck Certificates Presentation Ceremony at Banyan Tree Macau, attendees included officials from the Macao Government Tourism Office, Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (“DSPA”), Principal Consultant – Destination, Strategy and Insight of EarthCheck, Dr. Natasha Montesalvo, and GEG’s senior leadership.
In her speech, Dr. Natasha Montesalvo said, “Sustainability has become an important foundation of today’s tourism industry. The EarthCheck certifications achieved across GEG’s various hotel brands and facilities demonstrate that its environmental management and sustainability practices meet international standards. These milestones also reflect GEG’s continued progress in advancing sustainable development, setting a strong benchmark for the industry.”
Mr. Stuart Deeson, Senior Vice President of Hotel of Galaxy Macau, said in his speech, “GEG’s receipt of multiple internationally recognised EarthCheck certifications, including Macau’s first Platinum Certification, serves as a strong endorsement of our longstanding commitment to sustainability and green operations. Looking ahead, we will continue to leverage innovative technologies and systematic management to drive our low-carbon transition, contributing to the development of a greener Macau.”
Beyond certifications, GEG has embedded environmental principles into its day-to-day operations through a wide range of initiatives. Among the most notable is its pioneering “Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic” initiative, which has been fully implemented across all hotels within Galaxy Macau. The initiative replaces more than 22 million plastic items annually using bamboo amenities and large-capacity dispensers.

Mr. Justin Li, Assistant Vice President of Sustainability and Technical Services of Galaxy Macau, shared GEG’s green and environmental initiatives.
GEG has also introduced a circular upcycling model for landscape resource management, becoming the first integrated tourism and leisure in Macau to do so. In partnership with a local environmental technology SME, GEG transforms landscape resources generated across its properties into display materials used in hotel and MICE services, supporting the development of a local circular green economy.
In the community sphere, GEG took part in the “National Event on World Environment Day 2026 and Beautiful China Promotion Week (Macau)”, organized by the DSPA. During the opening ceremony, GEG donated proceeds from its annual plastic bag fee to the Fuhong Society of Macau, contributing to recycling initiatives and vocational training for people with disabilities.
GEG has also supported energy-saving campaigns such as “Lights Off for One Hour” and “Dress Light ∙ Save Energy”, while participating in the Fifth Sustainable SEAFood Festival, organized by the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Coalition in honour of UN World Oceans Day.
Looking ahead, GEG will continue to support Macau’s development into a liveable, greener city through concrete and sustained actions.
