“Jet stream” brings days of cold, rain, and wind

The weather in mainland Portugal is set to change starting this Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop by up to 6 or 7 degrees Celsius and strong winds

Lusa - Portugal

Weather conditions in mainland Portugal are set to change starting Tuesday, with temperatures expected to drop by up to 6–7 degrees Celsius and strong winds forecast, meteorologist Maria João Frada told Lusa news agency.

“For the coming days, we will see the passage of weak frontal systems that are dissipating over mainland Portugal and will bring cloud cover and precipitation,” she said.

According to the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), strong winds are expected, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour along the western coast, in highland areas, and in the eastern Algarve.

“Today will be the windiest day. Conditions will improve on Wednesday, but the wind will return on Thursday with similar intensity. Temperatures will fall today by between 3 and 6-7 degrees in some areas, which, combined with the wind, will make it feel significantly colder,” she said.

Maximum temperatures across most of mainland Portugal are expected to range between 22°C and 25-26°C, although they could reach 30°C in some parts of the Alentejo, the Tagus Valley, and the Douro Valley. Along the western coastal strip, highs will be lower, ranging from 18°C to 20-23°C.

Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 11-12°C and 15°C, between 17°C and 20°C along the coast, and between 8°C and 10°C in higher-altitude areas.

According to Maria João Frada, temperatures will rise again on Wednesday before dropping once more on Thursday, accompanied by another increase in wind intensity.
