Sands China recently launched the “Community Revitalization Programme 2.0 for Rua das Estalagens” in support of the Macao SAR government’s direction of promoting the community economy and district revitalization.
To help aspiring local entrepreneurs seize the opportunities created by the programme, the company held a briefing session May 8 afternoon at The Londoner Macao, attracting nearly 100 aspiring entrepreneurs and SME representatives.
The session was the first public activity in the programme series and introduced the achievements of the inaugural “Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens” over the past two years.
William Chan, Executive Director of Supply Chain Operations for Sands China, outlined the new programme, which is centred on the principle of “integrating the old with the new, bridging the past into the future” and includes the Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme 2.0 and the inaugural Shop Rebranding Programme.
Under the Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme 2.0, applicants must commit an initial self-invested operating capital of no less than MOP 300,000.
Selected projects may receive subsidies of one to two times the self-invested amount, up to MOP 1 million per applicant, based on evaluation factors such as creativity, market potential and team experience.
The Shop Rebranding Programme targets businesses already operating on Rua das Estalagens. Applicants must invest at least MOP 50,000, and selected projects may receive subsidies of one to three times that amount, capped at MOP 500,000 per applicant.
The programme covers brand image innovation, product packaging and storefront beautification, with the aim of strengthening businesses in the district.
To support practical preparation, Sands China invited representatives from government departments and public utilities to explain policy support, licensing and operational requirements.
Stella Ho, Expert Senior Officer of the Industry and Commerce Support Division of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau introduced support measures for young entrepreneurs and SMEs, including the Young Entrepreneurs Aid Scheme, SME Aid Scheme and SME Bank Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme.
Lam Cheok Kao, Senior Officer of the Municipal Affairs Bureau explained the one-stop licensing system and the Law Regulating the Food and Beverage Business and Related Establishments, while Lok Wai Ian outlined the Registration System for Establishments of Takeaway Activities.
Tommy Cheong, Engineer of Technical Services Management of the CEM Customer Services Department and Joby Kuo, Assistant Customer Relations Officer of The Macao Water Supply Company Limited also briefed participants on electricity and water supply arrangements for new businesses.
The session concluded with a public Q&A, during which Sands China and the speakers answered questions on entrepreneurship and operations.
The company also ran training courses for SMEs on 14 May and held open days on Rua das Estalagens from 15 to 17 May, and will heal open days again from 12 to 14 June, offering additional support through training and site visits.
