Hansi Flick, the head coach of FC Barcelona, confirmed this Tuesday that he will renew his contract with the Catalan club until 2028, with an option for an additional year. The announcement comes just days after the German coach secured his second consecutive La Liga title. “I am very grateful to the club for the opportunity to coach until 2028,” Flick said during a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s match against Alavés.
“Now we have to work harder, reach our best level, and win titles. We all have the dream of winning the Champions League, and we will try again,” said the German coach.
The 61-year-old manager joined the club last season and successfully defended the Spanish league title on Sunday with a 2-0 home victory over rivals Real Madrid, clinching the trophy with three rounds still to play. With this achievement, Flick became the 10th coach in Barcelona’s history to win back-to-back league titles and the first German manager to lead the “Blaugrana” to a consecutive championship.

During his tenure, the German technician has led the team in 114 matches, securing 87 wins, 10 draws, and 17 losses. Over two seasons, he has already collected five trophies for the Catalan side: two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey.
However, continental success has remained elusive; despite winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2020, Flick’s Barcelona was eliminated by Atlético Madrid in this year’s quarter-finals, following a semi-final exit against Inter Milan in the 2024/25 campaign.
