FC Porto defeated Tondela 2-0 today in the 30th round of the Portuguese I Liga and is increasingly closer to the title, benefiting from Sporting’s defeat in the derby against Benfica.
At the Estádio do Dragão, the ‘blue and whites’ took the lead with a goal from Spaniard Gabri Veiga in the 48th minute, after Alan Varela had missed a penalty in the 39th minute, and extended their advantage through Dane Froholdt in the 65th minute.

With this victory, and following Benfica’s triumph in their visit to Sporting (2-1), FC Porto leads the I Liga with 79 points, seven more than the ‘encarnados’ and eight more than the ‘leões’, who have a game in hand, with only four rounds left to play.
Meanwhile, Tondela, which has not won in six games, remains in 17th and second-to-last place in the direct relegation zone with 21 points, five behind Casa Pia, which is 16th, the relegation play-off spot, with both teams having a game in hand.
