From March 25 to 29, Sands China is taking its Sands Gallery to Art Central, an international art event during Hong Kong’s art month, and presenting three outstanding contemporary young artists from Macao – Lei Ieng Wai, Leong Chi Mou, and Dor Lio Hak Man – to showcase the emerging strength of Macao’s art scene.
Sands China will present works by three emerging Macao contemporary artists at Art Central Hong Kong from 25 to 29 March, using its Sands Gallery booth as a cultural portal for the city.
Sands China’s participation is a first for an integrated tourism and leisure enterprise from Macao at the event and positions local artists on an international platform during Hong Kong Art Month.
The Sands Gallery booth features multi-media paintings and a thematic installation that showcase each artist’s distinct approach.
Lei Ieng Wai explores optical perception and urban rhythm through structured colour fields and geometric forms.
Leong Chi Mou uses gilding techniques to build textured surfaces that evoke memory and Macao’s landscape.
Dor Lio Hak Man blends delicate figuration with urban scenes to produce intimate depictions of daily life.
All three artists are rising figures within the Macau Artist Society, and their works reflect a blend of local heritage and international sensibility.
Sands Gallery’s curator selected pieces that align with Art Central’s theme “Discover Art. Make It Yours.” The presentation aims to highlight Macao’s East–West cultural fusion and to invite collectors, institutions and the public to engage with the city’s contemporary art scene.
Since its founding in 2015, Art Central has become a key feature of Hong Kong Art Month and a global platform for cultural exchange.
The fair will bring together emerging artists, established names, collectors and institutions at Central Harbourfront, offering opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Sands Gallery was established in 2022 at The Grand Suites at Four Seasons, Macao and has curated 12 exhibitions featuring more than 60 artists from China, Japan, Korea, Italy and the United States.
The gallery serves as a professional showcase for Macao artists and supports the city’s development as a hub for cultural exchange.
By bringing Sands Gallery to Art Central, Sands China intends to broaden exposure for Macao artists, reinforce the city’s cultural tourism proposition and contribute to talent development that complements Macao’s non-gaming diversification strategy.
The gallery’s presence at the fair demonstrates institutional support for the arts and advances the international visibility of Macao’s creative community.
