Before the long holiday, the Consumer Council, in conjunction with Macau Customs, conducted extensive and in-depth legal awareness campaigns throughout various districts, including popular shopping areas. They distributed booklets on the Consumer Rights Protection Law to merchants, reminding them to operate honestly and legally, avoid selling infringing products, and treat customers with respect.
To further enhance residents’ and tourists’ confidence in the local pharmaceutical market, the Consumer Council, along with Macau Customs and the Macao Authority for Medicines, promoted and inspected pharmacies and businesses in various districts, reminding merchants to adhere to the laws of the Macau SAR and together safeguard consumer rights.
Additionally, to strengthen the protection of tourists’ consumption rights, the Consumer Council has been continuously inspecting and monitoring shopping points for tour groups in collaboration with Macau Customs, the Tourism Bureau, and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, urging merchants to operate legally and maintain order in the tourism retail industry.
In related news, the Consumer Council and Macau Customs, along with the Judiciary Police, Public Security Police, Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Tourism Bureau, Transport Bureau, Municipal Affairs Bureau, Medicines Regulatory Authority, and Post and Telecommunications Bureau, recently held a cross-departmental meeting.
Each department presented its recent efforts to protect consumer rights, shared plans for holiday consumer protection, and maintained close communication through a notification mechanism to provide timely support or services to residents and tourists in need.
The Consumer Council reminds consumers to familiarize themselves with the details of products or services before making a purchase, as well as the transaction terms. For dining consumption, it is important to pay attention to promotional terms, particularly whether there are usage restrictions during holiday periods. Additionally, consumers should keep receipts and other proof of purchase to support any claims in the event of a consumption dispute, helping to protect their rights.
