Guests of honour officiate the opening ceremony of Sands China’s Special Exhibition for Art Macao 2025, “Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness,” Tuesday at The Venetian Macao.
Exhibition Overview
As part of the Macao International Art Biennale 2025, Sands China Ltd. is presenting two concurrent showcases from July 29 to October 15:
- Special Exhibition “Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness” at The Venetian Macao
- Collateral Exhibition “Beyond the Frame: International Contemporary Masterpieces” at Sands Gallery, The Grand Suites at Four Seasons
Together, they display more than 80 original works that blend popculture, mythology, and a variety of media.
“Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness”
With The Venetian Macao’s European façades as the setting, the outdoor exhibit transforms the integrated resort’s lagoon area into a theatrical stage of joy, featuring nine internationally renowned contemporary artists—Craig & Karl, Bibi Lei, GRAFFLEX, Hei Lok, Ilya Milstein, Jun Oson, Jonni Cheatwood, and Song Zhou—who have reimagined Sesame Street icons through the lens of “dopamine art.” By fusing Roman mythology with vivid colours and boundless creativity, each worldpremiere piece invites onlookers to experience emotional resonance and rediscover happiness in public spaces.
“Beyond the Frame: International Contemporary Masterpieces”
Inside Sands Gallery, six participating artists—Bibi Lei, Song Zhou, Jun Oson, GRAFFLEX, Ilya Milstein, and Jonni Cheatwood—challenge artistic conventions across 60+ works in painting, sculpture, installation, and mixed media. The showcase encourages active engagement, provoking reflection on materiality, space, and cultural narratives that extend “beyond the frame.”
Official Remarks
Leong Wai Man, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, praised Dopamine: Fountain of Happiness for merging Asian, European, and American artistic forces to animate The Venetian Macao into a cross-cultural stage. Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China, underscored art’s power to set Macau’s cityscape alight with “dopamine” and thanked the SAR government and ARTICROSS for their guidance and collaboration.
Extension Community Activities
- Art Sharing Session (July 30): Free artist talks at The Londoner Macao’s Greenwich Ballroom. The sessions aim to deepen exchange and connection between the Art Macao artists and Macao’s art and cultural community – building a bridge between Macao and the global art scene.
- Family Workshop (July 26): Bibi Lei’s “The Home of Flower Energy Swirls Workshop” at The Parisian Macao sparked creative, tactile connections for parents and children.
Strategic Impact
By curating world-class exhibitions, Sands China reinforces Macau’s status as a Culture City of East Asia and showcases its integrated resorts as dynamic cultural venues. These initiatives align with the city’s vision for arts-driven urban vitality and global cultural exchange.
