Sands China kicks off the Quality Retail Service seminar series June 27 with an opening ceremony at The Londoner Macao, with around 300 participants attending. The programme is in its third year and is co-organised by Sands China Ltd., the Macao Government Tourism Office, and the Macao Consumer Council.

Programme Launch & Objectives

On June 27, Sands China Ltd. hosted the opening ceremony for the 2025 Quality Retail Service seminar series at The Londoner Macao, immediately followed by the first session on smart communication in hospitality.

Co-organised with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Consumer Council, this third-year initiative aims to uplift Macao’s retail service quality, supporting the government’s “tourism + retail” strategy and moderate economic diversification of Macao.

Target Audience & Attendance

Designed for retail and tourism professionals—including Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme merchants, and Adherent and Certified Shop members—this year’s series attracted 300 participants, including representatives from MGTO, the Consumer Council and Sands China.

Leadership Insights

Doris Leong of MGTO stressed that high-quality retail services bolster Macao’s image as a world centre of tourism and leisure, highlighting that collaborative initiatives will create “return-worthy” shopping experiences that enhance competitiveness and consumption potential.

Paulo Cheong, SVP of Human Resources at Sands China, highlighted evolving consumer behaviors and pledged continued investment in retail talent training to ensure exceptional service standards.

Seminar Series Details

The four-session series runs from June through late 2025, featuring speakers from media, leading brands, and retail experts.

  • Session 1: Cross-media communicator Connie Wong guided participants on effective communication techniques to enrich the customer shopping experience and drive engagement through real-world case studies.

Sands Retail Academy & Impact

Launched in 2013, the Sands Retail Academy offers free training to practitioners across Sands Shoppes Macao’s 770 retailers, comprising over 13,000 professionals. The success of the academy earned it a PATA Gold Award for Human Capital Development in 2023.

The Quality Retail Service seminar series builds on this success, reinforcing service excellence across Macao’s retail landscape.

Strategic Partnership & Future Outlook

By uniting Sands China, MGTO, and the Consumer Council, the seminar series exemplifies cross-sector collaboration.

Sands China will continue partnering with government and industry stakeholders to drive retail transformation, service upgrades, and Macao’s positioning as a world centre of tourism and leisure.
