Sands China is bringing back its successful Outdoor Sketching Workshop along with an artwork exhibition across April and May at the historic former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses where East and West cultures intertwine, followed by a wind ensemble performance during the holiday period.
For the Labour Day golden week, Sands China once again shined a spotlight on arts and culture through its Outdoor Sketching Workshop and Wind Ensemble Performance, taking place across April and May at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory and the Taipa Houses.
These free events aim to deepen community engagement and cultural appreciation while boosting the tourism appeal of Macao’s revitalised historic districts.
Returning after last year’s successful debut, the sketching workshops are led by four of Macao’s respected artists – Lai Ieng, Lio Man Cheong, Lee Tak Seng, and Lam Chi Ian – on April 27, May 3, 10, and 17.
Supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, these sessions are held in outdoor settings at both revitalised landmarks, offering participants the chance to engage in hands-on artistic exchange with local masters.
Each participant’s work will be displayed at the Nostalgic House of the Taipa Houses, contributing to the site’s identity as a “Gallery for All” and showcasing Macao’s landscape through varied artistic perspectives.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Sands China partnered with the Macau Band Directors Association for a Wind Ensemble Performance May 3-5, daily at 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Chun Su Mei entrance of the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory.

This initiative not only created a lively cultural setting for visitors but also provided young local musicians with valuable public performance opportunities, reinforcing Macao’s reputation as the “City of Performing Arts.”
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., noted that the revitalisation of these two historic areas reflects a successful blend of heritage preservation and artistic innovation. He remarked: “We aim to enrich the community’s cultural fabric while supporting the government’s ‘tourism+’ strategy through meaningful events that integrate arts, history, and local talent.”
These events are aligned with recent municipal efforts, including the implementation of temporary pedestrian zones in Taipa Old Village.
Through creative engagement and strategic programming, Sands China continues to inject vitality into the city’s historic zones and reinforce Macao’s positioning as a multicultural tourism hub.
