Sands China management and EmpowHER’s steering committee gather Friday in celebration of International Women’s Day. The event aimed to express the company’s appreciation for the indispensable contributions that women make to the workplace, family, and society.
Sands China Ltd. continued its annual tradition of celebrating International Women’s Day, expressing gratitude for the invaluable contributions of women in the workplace, family, and society.
The event, held on Friday, featured special gifts and gatherings designed to empower and inspire team members.
Across all departments, Sands China’s management team presented soap flowers to female team members as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
At The Venetian Macao’s back-of-house team member restaurant, an engaging celebration encouraged discussions on women-related topics, fostering a sense of unity.
Similar events took place at Sands’ global properties to reinforce the company’s appreciation for its female workforce.
The event was organized by Sands EmpowHER, a global, women-led diversity and inclusion initiative. This resource group aims to connect female team members, providing opportunities for networking, mentorship, and professional development.
As part of the celebration, Las Vegas Sands Co-founder Dr. Miriam Adelson shared an encouraging video message, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and striving for personal and professional achievements.
Grant Chum, CEO and Executive Director of Sands China Ltd., highlighted the significance of the company’s 27,000 team members, half of whom are women. He stated: “This event is a way for the company to express our appreciation for their many contributions as we carry out our commitment to upholding a corporate culture of respect and equity. By encouraging and nurturing their career development, our female team members are able to fully contribute and lead at all levels of our operations – making invaluable contributions to the company in every department. In addition, with EmpowHER, we are delighted to nourish a culture of growth and development while placing a high value on diversity, equity and inclusion.”
The celebration was livestreamed to back-of-house areas at The Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, The Londoner Macao, and Sands Macao.
Additionally, Dr. Adelson’s message was shared via the company’s intranet and back-of-house TV screens. The event concluded with an insightful talk by Virginia Lam, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer of Sands China Ltd., who shared her experiences in building a successful career.
Sands China’s EmpowHER initiative continues to provide mentorship, networking opportunities, developmental programs and community engagement.
Many participants have benefited from mentorship, gaining guidance from women leaders on career advancement and professional growth.
The company also upholds a respectful and equitable workplace through policies such as the prevention of sexual harassment and discrimination policy launched in 2018, the first of its kind in Macao.
