Explore Taipa at Light Up Macao 2024 (Part 2)

Under the theme “Convergence of Time and Space”, artists and design teams from around the world and Macao created light installations in six areas of Macao Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane, until February 28, 2025.

Platform Studio

This week, Plataforma continues the journey in Taipa, presenting the remaining 5 installations in the area, under the theme of “Fusion of Arts and Culture”, hope shines through light animations, reflecting on Macao’s journey over the past 25 years and inspire a vision for the future.

Interactive Installation

Take a Turn | Artists: Zhu Jixiang (Chongqing, China)

The illuminated windmill blades in the artwork represent joy and good luck, inviting visitors to engage and feel the rhythm of the wind. As you move past the installation, infrared sensors trigger the windmills to spin and light up.

Location: Vila da Taipa Historical Center Archway

Artist Introduction: Zhu Jixiang’s studio specializes in chemical painting, installation art, experimental video, and related projects. He teaches at the Department of Public Art, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, and has served as the executive director of the HE base multiple times. His works have been featured in several exhibitions.

CONSTELLATIONS | Artists: Gabriel Lavoie-Viau & Daniel Iregui (Montreal, Canada)

“CONSTELLATIONS” offers an interactive experience where you can use your mobile flashlight to activate two modes: connecting stars to form constellations or uncovering a hidden galaxy.

Simply shine your phone’s flashlight on the wall to trigger the projection game, alternating between two captivating lighting effects.

Location: Camões Square (in front of the Pak Tai Temple)

Artists Introduction:

  • Gabriel Lavoie-Viau is an interactive designer from Montreal with a background in digital composition and film. He collaborates with Iregular and explores modular synthesis, blending analog and digital technologies to push the boundaries of sound and interactive media.
  • Daniel Iregui is a Montreal-based new media artist and founder of Iregular studio. He creates interactive and immersive audiovisual installations, with his work exhibited in 25 countries, including notable shows at the Van Abbemuseum and major festivals like Mutek and Mapping Festival.

Artist Introduction: Established in 1996, A Plus is a leader in event planning and lighting design, with notable contributions to Macao’s festive landscapes, including the Central District’s holiday displays.

Sparkling PathArtist: A Plus from Macao, China

The pathway of light and shadow comes alive with vibrant colors, revealing a unique view at every step. The Portuguese tile patterns add an exotic charm, blending tradition with captivating beauty.

Location: Rua Governador Tamagnini Barbosa

Projection Mapping

100 FUN | Artist: Nico Liu (Macao, China)

In 2024, we celebrated 75 years of the People’s Republic of China and 25 years of the Macao SAR, totaling 100—a symbol of perfection. Macao, a city rich in culture and entertainment, reflected this ideal. Using 3D effects and elements like historic landmarks, cuisine, and festivals, we honored these milestones with a vibrant celebration.

Location: Largo dos Bombeiros (the façade of Cozinha Pinocchio)

Schedule: 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00, 21:30

Artist Introduction: Nico Liu, a multimedia artist from Macao, China, specializes in projection mapping. She has participated in and won awards at renowned international light festivals, including the Macau Light Festival, Japan’s 1-Minute Projection Mapping Competition, Berlin Festival of Light, Norway Factory Light Festival, Shining Shanghai, and Taichung Light Festival.
