Guests of honour officiate an opening ceremony Wednesday at the Macao Science Center waterfront to celebrate world-famous pop art master Philip Colbert’s colourful maritime and cultural tourism art exhibition, Coastal Fantasia: The Lobster King’s Vacation in Macao. Running from now until mid-March, the free exhibition features massive installations and sculptures of Colbert’s iconic Lobster cartoon persona at five concurrent locations in Macao, encouraging both local residents and visitors to appreciate Macao’s unique coastal beauty.
The free exhibition includes exclusive works created for Macao, with support from local government bodies such as the Marine and Water Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macao Science Center.
Sands China aims to enrich Macao’s cultural and tourism appeal, promoting its maritime heritage and international profile.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd., expressed delight at collaborating with Colbert, emphasizing Macao’s unique East-meets-West culture and the importance of environmental preservation through art.
Sands China holds an opening ceremony Wednesday for Philip Colbert’s first solo exhibition in Macao, “The Journey to the Lobster Planet Macao,” at‧ART Space at Macao Cultural Centre. The exhibition, which is co-organised by Sands China, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Colbert, aims to expand Colbert’s artistic footprint into neighbouring community areas by unveiling his collection of over 20 newly created artworks, ranging from oil paintings and sculptures, letting visitors discover the vibrancy of pop art in a museum ambiance.
Philip Colbert’s playful Lobster character has captivated global audiences with its hyper-pop style, blending historic art themes and contemporary culture.
His installations are located at iconic spots like The Venetian Macao outdoor lagoon, the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory, and Taipa Houses. Some of the installations are global debuts, enhancing Macao’s standing as a cultural hub.
The exhibition highlights include the Lobster Submarine, a 15-metre inflatable at the Macao Science Center, and the 7-metre Lobster Flamingo at The Venetian Macao lagoon.

Meanwhile, Colbert’s solo exhibit, The Journey to the Lobster Planet Macao, at ‧ART Space features over 20 new artworks, running until Feb. 15.
Finally, Sands China’s Community Revitalization Series brings Colbert’s work to the aforementioned historic sites, featuring sculptures like Lobster Firecracker and Lobster Cockerel.
Enhancing the Lunar New Year festivities, visitors can receive lobster-themed fai chun from an on-site calligrapher and enjoy instrumental performances. Additionally, an art-sharing session with Colbert was held at ‧ART Space on Jan 16 for Macao tertiary art students.
Wednesday’s opening ceremony was attended by key government officials and Sands China executives, alongside Colbert himself.
