12th MITE Supports “1 + 4” Tourism Industry Development

The 12th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) was successfully held over three consecutive days in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao SAR. The Expo showcased a diverse range of industries including tourism, health and wellness, modern financial services, innovative technology, conferences and exhibitions, commerce and trade, culture and sports, cultural institutions and museums, educational tourism, gastronomy, wine, and products for sale. Participants from around the world seized the opportunity to foster exchange, forge collaborations, explore new tourism trends, and expand their business opportunities.

Highlights of the Expo included:

25th Anniversary Pavilion, Gastronomy Pavilion, and The Cellar: Through virtual reality and artificial intelligence, the 25th Anniversary Pavilion provided an overview of Macao’s tourism industry development over the past 25 years and its vision for the future. The Gastronomy Pavilion and The Cellar showcased the vibrant synergy of “tourism + gastronomy.”

“1 + 4” Pavilion: The Expo continued to support the development of the four key industries – health and wellness, modern financial services, innovative technology, conferences and exhibitions, commerce and trade, and culture and sports. The exhibition area was more than doubled from the previous edition, showcasing products, projects, and services in these industries.

Product Presentations and Forums: Over 40 presentations, forums, and activities were held during the Expo, providing updates on tourism information and products from Macao and around the world.

Events related to the key industries included the “High-level Forum on Greater Bay Area Tourism Development 2024: Artificial Intelligence and Creativity in Culture and Tourism,” “A Museum Journey: Macao and Mainland China Cultural Exchange Meeting,” and the “2nd Macao International Forum on Health Management and Wellness Tourism,” among others.

KOLs Live Streaming: Key opinion leaders (KOLs) with over a million followers were invited to live stream and spotlight distinctive products from Portuguese-speaking countries at the Pavilion of China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform.

Cultural Institutions and Educational Tours: Cultural museums and institutions showcased educational tour itineraries and products at the Themed Pavilion of Cultural Museums and Educational Tourism. The “A Museum Journey: Macao and Mainland China Cultural Exchange Meeting” aimed to deepen the synergy of “tourism + education.”

Collaboration and Contracts: Over 30 contracts were signed for collaboration in various sectors, including tourism, health and wellness, air services, educational tourism, and weddings. The MITE Initiative of “Belt and Road” Tourism Development Alliance in Macao was signed by 17 exhibitors and buyers from Belt and Road countries.

Commenting on the Expo, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office, stated, “MITE has developed into one of Macao’s prestigious exhibitions, providing an effective platform for exchange and trade and creating a powerhouse for the synergy of tourism and other sectors. With our ‘1 + 4’ development strategy, we are working towards enriching Macao’s dynamic as a world center of tourism and leisure.”

Alex Lao, President of Macau Travel Agency Association, expressed his satisfaction with the Expo’s success and its recognition as the only exhibition brand in the 14th Five-Year Tourism Development Plan. He also highlighted the accreditation from the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) as an “UFI Approved International Event.”

The 12th MITE was organized by Macao Government Tourism Office and coordinated by Macau Travel Agency Association, with the support of various entities, co-organizers, and sponsors.
